HSU – Fallopion tube examination

To obtain pregnancy the normal way or by insemination, at least one of your tubes need to have passage. Earlier infection can be the cause of the tubes blocking due to adhesions. In suspicion of fibroma, polyps, or adhesions in the uterine cavity, a hysteroscopy should be done.

HSU-examination is usually done on day 5-11 of your cycle. Before the HSU-examination, you must have a negative chlamydia (cervix swab), no more than 6 month ago.  The cervix swab can be done at your GP.

HSU-examinaiton involves flushing contrast fluid through the tubes and at the same time making an ultrasound scan to see, if there is passage through the tubes and whether the tubes and the uterus looks normal. You will be able to follow the examination on the TV-screen.

The examination only lasts 5-10 minutes and is harmless, but after a couple of hours you may feel some discomfort (like when menstruating). In rear cases an infection may occur.
